Depression isn't always obvious, and it isn't always sadness. Whatever it looks like for you, you don't have to keep pushing through it alone.
Depression is more than sadness. It can show up as heaviness, numbness, a loss of interest in things that used to matter, or a persistent sense that something is wrong. It can be quiet and hard to name. Some days it makes ordinary tasks feel impossible.
Depression doesn't always announce itself. It can look like exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, low motivation, difficulty concentrating, pulling away from people you care about, or a feeling of going through the motions. Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy are common too.
You don't have to be unable to get out of bed for it to count. If you've been feeling off for a while and nothing seems to shift it, that's worth paying attention to.
We start by understanding what's underneath. Depression usually has roots in life circumstances, relationships, and experiences that have accumulated over time. Talk therapy gives us space to explore those roots and start shifting what's kept them there.
Where appropriate, EMDR can also help process older experiences that contribute to how you're feeling now. The goal is understanding yourself well enough that things actually change.
A lot of people wait too long to reach out, thinking it isn't bad enough or that they should be able to handle it on their own. You don't need to be in crisis. If you've been feeling this way for a while and you're tired of it, that's enough of a reason to start.
