Getting Started

You can book directly through my Headway profile, or email me at tinaliulmhc@gmail.com with a brief intro.
Yes — I'm currently accepting new clients in New York and Florida. You can book a first intake session directly through Headway or email me at tinaliulmhc@gmail.com.
The first session is an intake, billed at the standard rate. It involves a lot of information gathering: we'll talk about what brought you in, your background, and your goals, and we'll go through some clinical assessments and screenings. You'll also have space to ask me questions. There's no pressure to commit beyond that session. And if you don't think I'm the right therapist for you, no worries — I'm happy to offer referrals to someone I think would be.
Yes, I work with adolescents as well as adults. If you're a parent reaching out on behalf of a teenager, feel free to get in touch. We can talk through whether it would be a good fit.
Most of my clients are in their twenties and thirties, in college or finding their footing after it, navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship struggles, and questions of identity. Many are Asian, BIPOC, queer, or children of immigrants, and all are welcome. If after our first session it doesn't feel like the right fit, I'll refer you to someone who may suit you better.

Sessions

Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Extended 90-minute sessions and 3-hour EMDR intensives are also available — see the Fees page for details.
Most clients start weekly. As you progress, we may shift to biweekly. We'll figure out the right cadence together based on your goals.
It depends on what you're working on. Some people find real relief in a few months; others benefit from longer-term work. We'll check in regularly on how things are going.
I ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee.

Telehealth

My practice is fully virtual, so all sessions happen over secure video. It means we can meet from wherever you are in New York or Florida, without the commute.
You'll get a link to a secure, HIPAA-compliant video session. You just need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and mic.
You'll need to be physically in a state where I'm licensed — New York or Florida — at the time of our session. If you're travelling outside those states, we can reschedule for when you're back.

Fees & Insurance

$200 per 50-minute session. Extended 90-minute sessions are $275, for EMDR or for talk therapy when 50 minutes isn't quite enough. Three-hour EMDR intensives are $600.
It depends on your state. In New York: 1199SEIU Funds, Aetna, Anthem BCBS NY, Highmark BlueShield (Northeastern NY), Highmark BCBS (Western NY), Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Horizon BCBS NJ, Oscar (Optum), Oxford (Optum), and United Healthcare (Optum). In Florida: Aetna, Ascension (SmartHealth), Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Oscar (Optum), Oxford (Optum), and United Healthcare (Optum). I can help you check your benefits and copay before your first session.
With in-network insurance you pay only your plan's copay or cost-share, which is typically much less than the full $200 rate. Billing runs through Headway.
I offer a sliding scale rate for those who qualify. Proof of income is required. Sliding scale spots are currently full, but you can email me to join the waitlist and I'll reach out when one opens.
Yes. I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Check your plan details for what's covered.

Specialties

Yes. I completed my EMDR training through the Institute for Creative Mindfulness (EMDRIA approved program). If you're interested in EMDR as part of our work together, feel free to ask about it when we connect.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help you process distressing memories that feel stuck, the ones that still show up in your body or reactions even when you think you've moved on. You don't have to relive everything to heal from it. EMDR helps your nervous system do what it was always trying to do: process, integrate, and move forward.
I work with individuals only — adolescents and adults. If you're looking for couples or family therapy, I'm glad to point you toward someone who specializes in that work.
Yes. As a child of immigrants myself, I know firsthand what it means to move between worlds and how much it matters to be understood in the fullness of who you are. Your culture, your history, your relationships. All of it is welcome here.
I offer therapy primarily in English. That said, many people naturally move between languages to find the right words for a certain feeling, and you are welcome to do that here. I do not hold full sessions in Cantonese or Toisanese, but if those languages help you express something, I can support you in bringing them into our work.
